Provenance: From a collection of humourous drawings sent by "Bert" to his girlfriend, Cissi Bell, who lived at 5 Curtis Road, Fenham, Newcastle on Tyne. Drawn mainly on plain postcards - British, French and German. Herbert and Cissi never married but Herbert survived the war. MM awarded 7th October 1916. London Gazette, February 1917, Page 18, Ref. XXVII.
