An aeroplane directing the fire of HMS Severn and HMS Mersey on the German cruiser SMS Konigsberg - 6th July 1915. The following each received the DSO - Commanders Fitzmaurice, Fullerton & Wilson of the Royal Navy and Squadron Commander R. Gordon, Flight Commander Cull & Flight Sub-Lieutenant H.J. Artist:
ARTHUR JAMES WEATHERALL BURGESS, RI (1879-1956). Born in Australia, settled in England in 1901. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1904 and worked as an illustrator for The Graphic and the Illustrated London News. Burgess was appointed the official naval artist for the Commonwealth of Australia in 1918 and went on to become the art editor of Brassey's Naval and Shipping Annual from 1922 to 1930.
