Provenance: In 1905 the German automobile club, Prince Heinrich of Prussia and the Prussian war ministry set up the Deutsche Freiwillige Automobilekorps. The members put their vehicles at the disposal of the military during military manoeuvres. At the start of the First World War, the name of the corps was changed to Kaiserliche Freiwilliges Automobilkorps. The members were given the rank of Officers.
