Lieutenant Warneford's great exploit. 1st Zeppelin to be brought down by allied Aircraft. At 3 a.m. on 7th June 1915, Flight Sub-Lt. R.A.J. Warneford, RN, in a Morane Monoplane, attacked Zeppelin LZ37 in the air between Ghent and Brussels at 6000 feet. 6 bombs were dropped and the airship was brought down in flames. The VC was confirmed at once on Lieutenant Warneford, who was killed accidentally on 17th June 1915, while testing an aeroplane at Buc Aerodrome, Paris.
