Artist:MARCEL AUGIS (Pseudonym of H. DUPONT). There were a number of First World War French and Belgian artists, including Marcel Augis, that trod the battlefields of the Western Front during the Great War 1914-1918. They recorded the devastation of the battlefields and the areas that contained Allied troops. Many of these etchings/aquatints would have been sold to soldiers returning home after the War or subsequently purchased on the many battlefield remembrance tours that took place in the 1920s and 1930s.
