Citation : "Major-General Sir H. V. Cox, KCMG, CB, CST, Commanding 4th Australian Division, congratulates No. 2218, Sergeant K. Toleman, 46th Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces, on his Gallant Conduct in carrying back a wounded Comrade from between the British and German Trenches for a distance of 75 yards, under heavy Machine Gun and Rifle Fire. Place - BEF, France; Date - 21st July 1916."
